A tetherball on the turf, a riverside firepit, and the smell of cowboy coffee: these are just a few of the touches that make this old homestead a uniquely pleasant place to stay. There are 15 modernized cabins with fully equipped kitchens on the Gunnison River. You can fish right outside your door or drive to Blue Mesa Reservoir, 18 miles away. The resort is dog-friendly, and the proprietors are knowledgeable about fishing, trails, and local history.

Rockey River Resort is located on the Gunnison river with 15 Cabins and 24 RV sites (mostly full all summer so make reservations early). RV Sites are approximately 150ft. from a quarter mile of Trophy Fishing along the Gunnison. Sites are large (approx. 30’ x 50’) fully equipped, with fantastic water, sewer and 30 AMP Service (but don’t sweat it, you won’t need to run 2 A/Cs with highs in the low 80’s). Your gracious hosts will do almost
anything to make your stay a great one, and you’ll find a diverse group of residents ready to welcome you and assimilate you into the “Trailerhood”, whether you’re staying a day, or more than a month. If you’re a former Corporate VP with a drinking problem (belligerent drunk), and enjoy threating young ladies and 85 year old Gentlemen (like you probably did back in the glory days), Rockey River just might not be the place for you. Otherwise it’s the greatest place to spend a summer vacation or extended stay, in one of the best locations in the world.

Although I have traveled the world, this is the first time I have ever written a review but I feel I must. If you are an RV person visiting different places, this is NOT the RV park for you. The cabins looked fine but the area for RV's is congested and smells of sewer. The add makes you think you are close to the river in reality you are looking at another trailer. But something more ominous goes on there. Unless you are one of the people that
park your RV year round for about $1,500.00 per year, you are considered an outsider and scrutinized (profiled!). My husband drove our new Airstream there 3 weeks before I got there. Sure, he is a muscular, burly looking guy with a shaved head, a beard, tattoos, and sleevless shirts. But he is also a retired VP of ConAgra! How he chooses to look now is his perogitive. He was asked to leave because he "scared" people. There is something wrong about that. Don't fall for the add, it misrepresents a vacation paradise!
