Anasazi Heritage Center

Pit house re-created

Anasazi Heritage Center Review

Operated by the Federal Bureau of Land Management, this museum houses artifacts culled from more than 1,500 excavations in the region. The Anasazi Heritage Center has permanent exhibits showcasing the archaeology, history, and culture of the Ancestral Puebloans and other indigenous peoples. There are also two 12th-century pueblos, named after the Spanish friars Dominguez and Escalante, within walking distance. A full-scale replica of an ancient pit-house dwelling illustrates how the people lived around AD 850. It also houses the visitors center and jumping-off point for the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument.
