Royal Gorge Bridge and Park
Royal Gorge Bridge and Park Review
The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park has the world's highest suspension bridge. Never intended for traffic, it was constructed in 1929 as a tourist attraction. The 1,053-foot-high bridge sways on gusty afternoons, adding to the thrill of a crossing. You can also ride the astonishing aerial tram (2,200 feet long and 1,178 feet above the canyon floor) or descend the steepest incline rail line in the world to stare at the bridge from 1,000 feet below. A ride on the Royal Rush Skycoaster ensures an adrenaline rush—you'll swing from a free-fall tower and momentarily hang over the gorge. Also on hand are a theater that presents a 25-minute multimedia show, outdoor musical entertainment in summer, and the usual assortment of food and gift shops. Visiting this attraction can prove to be expensive for a family—and some Fodors.com readers suggest that it is not worth the money.
