Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area

Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area Review

Taking its own name from the many peaks named after famous universities, the 168,000-acre Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area includes more 14,000-foot-high mountains than any other wilderness area in the lower 48 states. Forty miles of the Continental Divide snake through the area as well. The most compelling reason to visit Buena Vista is for the almost unequaled variety of hikes, climbs, biking trails, and fishing streams here. Two ranger offices, one in Leadville and one in Salida, handle inquiries about this region.
