$$, Estes Park
Fodor's Review:
Families are the specialty at this secluded, 19-acre guest resort on the banks of the Big Thompson River. The kids will take home plenty of fun memories from the twice-weekly "soda saloons," nature walks, arts-and-crafts workshops, Tuesday evening campfire stories, and Thursday campfire sing-along. The whole family will enjoy the once-weekly "mountain breakfast" with omelets and flapjacks before a guided trail ride, some into Rocky Mountain National Park. You can stay in former Colorado governor James Peabody's (in office 1902-04) summer residence. There's a minimum stay of four nights. All bed and bath linens and kitchen utensils and dinnerware are provided. Pros: great place for families, attractive grounds on the river, on bus route. Cons: not within walking distance of attractions, along rather busy road.
