Colorado School of Mines

Fodor's Review:

The Colorado School of Mines, the nation's largest and foremost school of mineral engineering, has a lovely campus containing an outstanding geology museum with minerals, gemstones, and fossils from around the world and a reproduction of a gold mine. Also on campus is the prominent U.S.G.S. National Earthquake Information Center (1711 Illinois St. 303/273-8500. Tours, Tues.-Thurs. by appointment only, for 6th grade and above), which is responsible for pinpointing seismic activity all over the country. Geology museum

  • Cost: Free
