Metate Room Review

The park's rugged high-desert terrain contrasts with this relaxing space just off the lobby of the Far View Lodge. Tables in this southwestern-style dining room are candlelighted and cloth covered, but the atmosphere remains casual. A wall of windows affords wonderful Mesa Verde vistas. The menu is based on regional heritage foods, including corn, beans, and squash (all staples for the Ancestral Puebloans). Entrees include American classics like steak and seafood, or you can try one of the dishes centered on regional game such as elk and quail. Every table gets mesa bread and black bean hummus for starters. There's a solid array of wines (many from Colorado) and cocktails with kitschy names, like the "mesa-tini."

The food was excellent although a bit pricey. Lots of ambiance. Our server, Kathleen, was tops. The view was awesome. We definitely recommend the Metate Room for fine dining.
