Great Sand Dunes National Park Travel Guide

Park Essentials

Accessibility

The park has two wheelchairs with balloon tires (for the sand) that can be borrowed; someone must push them. You can reserve one by calling the visitor center. There is one accessible campsite.

Park Fees and Permits

Entrance fees are $3 per adult above age 15 and are valid for one week from date of purchase. Children are admitted free at all times. Pick up camping permits ($20 per night per site at Pinyon Flats Campground) and backpacking permits (free) at the visitor center.

Park Hours

The park is open 24/7. It is in the Mountain time zone.

Cell-Phone Reception

Cell-phone reception in the park is sporadic. Public telephones are at the visitor center, dunes parking lot, and at the Pinyon Flats campground—you need a calling card (these aren't coin-operated phones).
