Mary's Lake Lodge and Resort Review

This 1913 chalet-style lodge sits in the mountains and overlooks peaceful Mary's Lake, a couple of miles south of town. Original woodwork and antiques adorn the rooms; look for the Victorian floral lamps in the hallways. Some rooms still have claw-foot tubs, and others have Jacuzzi tubs. The elegant in-house restaurant, the Chalet Room ($$$–$$$$), serves such entrées as cioppino, bouillabaisse, and Provimi veal chops, and has an excellent wine list. Reservations are essential. The Tavern ($$$) is more casual, and has seating on the porch with expansive views. Popular dishes are the shepherd's pie and the lamb shank. There's live music every night: an ever-changing roster of musicians in the Tavern, plus a classical guitarist in the Chalet Room on Friday and Saturday. The lodge also rents fully modern luxury condominiums that can accommodate up to six people.

Marys Lake Lodge and Resort Review

I had a terrible experience, not once but twice at Marys Lake Lodge. It seems the rooms always have plumbing and heating problems and the maintenance crew was either very rude or didn't attend to the problem at all. The dining experience also has been less than average. The restaurant wasn't open this time due to plumbing, and the tavern had terrible service both times I was there, and as a woman it was very uncomfortable being surrounded by the local drunks. Not to mention it is very expensive and located in a place that doesn't get much sun so it's icy and cold; and the maintenance of roads is terrible in winter. I almost fell several times just trying to get to the main entrance.
