Hot Springs Pool Review

Hot Springs Pool, formerly called Yampah Hot Springs, was discovered by the Utes (yampah is Ute for "big medicine"). Even before the heyday of the hotel, Western notables that included Annie Oakley and Doc Holliday came to take the curative waters. In Doc's case, however, the cure didn't work, and six months after his arrival in 1887 he died from tuberculosis at age 36—broke and broken down. (He lies in Linwood Cemetery, 0.5 mi east of town.) The smaller pool is 100 feet long and maintained at 104°F. The larger is more than two city blocks long (405 feet), and contains more than a million gallons of constantly filtered water that is completely refilled every six hours and maintained at a soothing 90°F.
