Get a taste of daily life in Aspen every Saturday from mid-June though late October at the Aspen Saturday Market on Hopkins Avenue next to City Hall. This is an arts fair masquerading as a farmers' market, but the real fun is the people-watching. Women in $1,200 designer jeans chat on cell phones beneath rumpled cowboy hats, off-duty waiters stroll muddy mountain bikes past, and the vendors and artists hope to mine the new Aspen wealth. You can buy ceramic plates, mugs, and serving dishes from a number of local potters—be sure to take a look at Alleghany Meadows—some of whom also supply flatware to local restaurants.
For beautiful rings and dangling earrings, try Cathleen Crenshaw or Harmony Scott. There's even a blacksmith, Stephen Bershenyi, who crafts delicate flowers out of iron. Hungry? Don't forget the food vendors, including Jack Rabbit Hill Winery, Cloud Nine Brownie, and the Haystack Goat Dairy.
