Surrounded by 12 acres of green lawns and a split-rail fence, the Lazy J is a modest, well-kept compound of freestanding cottages near the banks of the Kaweah River. A few hundred feet off Highway 198, it's also very quiet and has an inviting pool as its centerpiece. Some rooms have gas fireplaces; all have coffeemakers. Pros: Friendly service, rustic, spacious. Cons: On the far side of town from the national park, occasionally pricey.
