Ten thousand feet of passageways in this marble cave were created from limestone that metamorphosed under tremendous heat and pressure. Formations are relatively undisturbed. The standard tour is 50 minutes in length. In summer, Sequoia Natural History Association offers a four- to six-hour "wild cave" tour (reservations required) and a 90-minute discovery tour, a less-structured excursion with fewer people. Tickets are not available at the cave; purchase them by 2:30 PM, and at least 90 minutes in advance, from the Lodgepole or Foothills visitor center.
