Fodor's Review:

The Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, which supplies water and hydroelectric power to San Francisco, is about 40 mi from Yosemite Valley. Some say John Muir died of heartbreak when this grand valley was dammed and flooded beneath 300 feet of water in 1913. Almost from the start, environmental groups such as the Sierra Club have lobbied the government to drain the reservoir; in 2006 the State of California issued a report stating that restoration of the valley is feasible.
