Restaurant at Convict Lake

Fodor's Review

The lake, named for an 1871 gunfight between local vigilantes and six escaped prisoners, is one of the most spectacular spots in the eastern Sierra, and the food here lives up to the view. The chef's specialties include beef Wellington, rack of lamb, and pan-seared local trout, all beautifully prepared. The woodsy room has a vaulted knotty-pine ceiling and a copper-chimney fireplace that roars on cold nights. Natural light abounds in the daytime, but if it's summer opt

for a table outdoors under the white-barked aspens. Service is exceptional, as is the wine list, with reasonably priced European and California varietals.
