The owners of Alpenhof lucked out when developers built the Village at Mammoth across the street from their mom-and-pop motel, which remains a simple lodging offering basic comforts and a few niceties such as the attractive pine furniture. A property-wide renovation in 2012 added brightness and light to the formerly dark and outdated rooms—all now have fresh color schemes, contemporary bedding, ski racks, refrigerators, and flat-screen TVs. Best of all, you can walk
to shops and restaurants, including the on-site Petra's. Downstairs is the fun Clocktower Cellar pub (if you want quiet, request a room that's not above it). Some rooms have fireplaces and kitchens. The Village Gondola is across the street, a major plus for skiers.
