Eureka

An excellent place to fuel up, buy groceries, and learn a little about the region's mining, timber, and fishing pasts, historic Eureka was named after a gold miner's hearty exclamation. The county visitor center has maps of self-guided walking tours of the town's nearly 100 Victorians. Art galleries and antiques stores liven up the Old Town district from C to N Street between the waterfront and 4th Street, and a walking pier extends into the harbor.
