Fodor's Expert Review Air Force Flight Test Museum at Edwards Air Force Base
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
This museum, at what many consider to be the birthplace of supersonic flight, chronicles the rich history of flight testing. Numerous airplanes are on exhibit, from the first F-16B to the only remaining YF-22. While those with approved base entry have access to regular museum hours, a general-public tour takes place once a month. The 3½-hour tour includes indoor museum exhibits and driving tours of the base. The tour requires a reservation and you have to provide basic information for a background check at least two weeks in advance (a month for non-U.S. residents), but be aware that slots fill up fast. On the base's website, click Tours for details.
