Hotel chains and roadside motels make up most of the lodging options in the desert. The tourist season runs through the summer months, from late May through September, when many travelers are heading out of California on Interstate 15. Reservations are never a problem: you're almost always guaranteed a room. But if your plans take you to the most luxurious resort in the entire desert—the Furnace Creek Inn, in Death Valley—be sure to book in advance for the winter season.
