The university occupies 1,438 rolling acres of the Kellogg Ranch, originally the winter home of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg. Cal Poly specializes in teaching agriculture, and you can find rose gardens, avocado groves, many farm animals, and a working Arabian horse ranch. The Farm Store (4102 S. University Dr.;909/869–4906) sells deli and gourmet foods, meat and produce from campus farms, and plants grown in the university nursery.
The site of the Los Angeles County Fair, North America's largest county fair, the Fairplex exposition center hosts open-air markets, antiques shows, roadster shows, historical train and model train exhibits, horse and dog shows, and the annual International Wine and Spirits competition. Also here is the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum(www.museum.nhra.com), which pays tribute to the history of American motor sports with exhibits of vintage racing vehicles and an amusing collection of tricked-out drag-racing cars.
The classic shows, started by cereal maker Kellogg in 1926, remain a tradition on the CSU–Pomona campus. Many purebreds live at the ranch, and the university presents exhibitions of the equines in English and Western tack on the first Sunday of the month at 2 pm from October through May. Stable visits and pony rides ($5) take place after the show.
