Golf in Temecula

Temecula has several championship golf courses cooled by the valley's ocean breezes.

Redhawk Golf Club. Considered one of the best 18-hole public golf courses in California, the Ron Fream–designed championship golf course is designed to take advantage of Temecula's tree-studded rolling hills set against craggy mountains. The course holds a bunch of traps to challenge your swing or putt. Watch out for wind, doglegs, skinny sand traps, and tiered greens. Rico's Cantina here offers Mexican and Italian items, served up buffet-style for breakfast or lunch. 45100 Redhawk Pkwy., Temecula, CA, 92592. 951/302–3850. $60 on weekdays; $80 on weekends. 18 holes, 7110 yards, par 72.

Temecula Creek Inn Golf Resort. For a special treat, head to the Temecula Creek Inn Golf Resort, designed by Ted Robinson and Dick Rossen. The Inn's 27 holes offer golfers three distinct course options in picturesque Southern California wine country. The most challenging of the Temecula Creek golf courses is the Stonehouse nine, which demands precise tee shots in order to get lower scores. 44501 Rainbow Canyon Rd., Temecula, CA, 95292. 951/676–2405. $80 on weekdays; $95 on weekends. Creek: 9 holes, 3348 yards, par 36; Oaks: 9 holes, 3436 yards, par 36; Stonehouse: 9 holes, 3257 yards, par 36.

Temeku Hills Golf Club. The tiered greens, five lakes, and many blind spots make for challenging rounds at this club's Ted Robinson-designed championship course. 41687 Temeku Dr., Temecula, CA, 92591. 951/694–9998. $40 on weekdays; $65 on weekends. 18 holes, 6636 yards, par 72.
