Thornton Winery

Thornton Winery Review

A rambling French Mediterranean-style stone building houses Thornton Winery, a producer best known for its sparkling wine, although recent vintages reflect Rhone/Mediterranean styles. You can taste winemaker David Vergari's brut reserve and Cuvée Rouge at a table in the lounge, or along with some food at Café Champagne. Readers rave about the syrah. On the weekend, take a free tour of the grounds and the wine cave. Summer Champagne jazz concerts featuring performers such as George Benson, Herb Alpert, and David Beniot (admission is $55-$95), and elaborate winemaker dinners ($120-$170) make this a fun place to spend an afternoon or evening.

A sprawling, welcoming place that will wow you. The wine is not as good as it used to be because they lost their master wine maker to South Coast. Still, a must visit place.
