The easiest way to get here is by car. The park is off Highway 43, a 15-minute drive west of Highway 99.
Kern National Wildlife Refuge
Kern National Wildlife Refuge. Snowy egrets, peregrine falcons, warblers, dozens of types of ducks, and other birds inhabit the marshes and wetlands here from November through April. Follow the 6½-mile loop drive (pick up maps at the entrance), but beware that waterfowl hunting is only allowed on Wednesday and Saturday from October through January. 10811 Corcoran Rd., 18 miles west of Delano on Hwy. 155, Garces Hwy.; from Allensworth take Hwy. 43 south to Hwy. 155 west, Allensworth, CA, 93216. 661/725–2767. www.fws.gov/kern.
