Claremont Resort and Spa Review

Straddling the Oakland-Berkeley border, this amenities-rich resort beckons like a gleaming white castle in the hills. The complex lures traveling executives with conveniences that include T-1 Internet connections, guest email addresses, and oversize desks, but also attracts honeymooners and leisure travelers with its luxurious suites, therapeutic massages, and personalized yoga workouts at the on-site spa. The rooms on the spa side of the hotel glow with new fixtures and furniture. Some offer spa tubs and, if you're high enough, spectacular bay views. (Another advantage: the scents wafting upward from the spa treatment rooms.)

    Old School

    Another relatively historic property in Berkeley that gets a lot of wealthy parents of college students who like the pretense of being "upper crust".

    Not a plae I'd stay if I wasn't there for a function of some kind. Slightly better than basic kind of snobby atmosphere, and they nickel and dime you for everything, from internet service to the required resort fee, whether or not you use their "resort" services.

    Too far from the Berkeley campus to walk.

    All in all, a nice place, but maybe just not my style.
