Northwest of the U.C. Berkeley campus, Walnut Square, at Walnut and Vine streets, has coffee shops and an eclectic assortment of boutiques proffering such goodies as holistic products for your pet, African masks, and French children's clothing. Around the corner on Shattuck Avenue is Chez Panisse Café & Restaurant, at the heart of what is locally known as the Gourmet Ghetto, a three-block stretch of specialty shops and eateries.
