Fodor's Review

Daniel Patterson of San Francisco's revered Coi opened this waterfront space in 2011, focusing on vegetables, whole-animal preparations, dishes to share, and great cocktails. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the yachts of Jack London Square, and warm lighting casts a glow over the wood-and-brick dining room. Look for anything smoked or with marrow on executive chef Kim Alter's menu and you can't miss; smoked black rice with citrus and uni is striking and flavorful, and

the shepherd's pie—pig belly, rutabaga, and potato puree—is earthy and delicious. The family menu ($35 per person), three courses served family-style and based on what's fresh at the market, is a fun way to experience this restaurant's inventive approach. Sunday brunch is served from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.
