Decorated to the hilt with floral bedspreads and watercolors by local artists, this Victorian country-style hotel is one of the most popular places to stay in San Luis Obispo. Each room has a gas fireplace and fresh flowers; some have canopy beds and cozy window seats. There's a working gristmill in the courtyard; within the inn are a restaurant serving American food (the hearty breakfasts are best), a gourmet food and wine shop, a bakery, and a gift shop. Pros: Flowers everywhere, convenient to Cal Poly and Hwy 101, creek-side setting. Cons: Hordes of tourists stop here during the day, too floral for some people's tastes.
