The Hitching Post II

The Hitching Post II Review

You'll find everything from grilled artichokes to ostrich at this casual eatery just outside of Solvang, but most people come for what is said to be the best Santa Maria-style barbecue in the state. The oak used in the barbecue imparts a wonderful smoky taste. Be sure to try a glass of owner-chef-winemaker Frank Ostini's signature Highliner pinot noir, a star in the 2004 film Sideways.

Being a fan of the movie, Sideways, I felt I should dine at the Hitching Post. The restaurant is almost exactly as it appears in the movie...dark woods and casual.

The food and the wine...well, let's just say I had a legendary dining experience. My filet was melt in your mouth, literally.

The wine was some of the best I tasted in Santa Inez, and I tasted a lot. From their signature, Highliner Pinot to their Syrah to their blends - you can't go wrong. Big, beautiful and complex. No wonder Miles (from the movie) was a regular!

I wish I lived closer to the HP!
