A cobblestone courtyard, country-French custom furnishings, and Gallic music piped through the halls evoke a Provençal mood at this cheery inn on upper Monterey Street's motel row. With extensive experience in luxury lodging, the owners are serious about the details: the individually themed rooms, sprinkled with lavender water, have CD players and L'Occitane bath products. Rates include wine and appetizers at cocktail hour and a full homemade breakfast in the sun-filled patio or dining room. Pros: French details throughout, scrumptious breakfasts, cozy rooms. Cons: Sits on a busy avenue, cramped parking.
