Post Ranch Inn Review

This luxurious retreat, designed exclusively for adult getaways, has remarkably environmentally conscious architecture. The redwood guesthouses, all of which have views of the sea or the mountains, blend almost invisibly into a wooded cliff 1,200 feet above the ocean. Each unit has its own fireplace, stereo, private deck, and massage table. On-site activities include everything from yoga to stargazing.

Regal Redwood Retreat
Few places on the planet rival the dramatic natural setting of California's rugged Big Sur coast and this spa, built with an eye towards harmony with nature, is rumored to be set on an ancient power spot. The retreat is comprised entirely of small, sculptural structures. Three years ago, the Ranch built 10 new buildings, some cantilevered off the 1,200 ft ocean side cliff and others perched on stilts to protect delicate root systems. Besides stunning views from the rooms and pools, the Ranch offers myriad mind-and-spirit activities, many reflecting Big Sur's laid-back, creative character. The Sierra Mar restaurant uses seasonal and regional ingredients to produce California cuisine with a French, Asian and Mediterranean influences.

As a bon voyage to the West Coast we decided to splurge and spend two nights at Post Ranch. Loved every minute of it! Pros: location, beautiful rooms, excellent service, privacy, stocked mini-fridge, amenities. You can sunbathe al fresco on your private patio because of the architecture of the property. Each unit (that I'm aware of) has its own hot tub (small but does the job). Delicious breakfast buffet that's included in the cost- awesome bread pudding. Dinner is not included and is pricey but very good. We went to another restaurant one night and someone from the staff drove us and picked us up when we were finished.

Cons: Pricey (depending on your financial status).
