Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort Review
Since 1946 this 10,000-acre ranch has been popular with celebrities and plain folk alike. There are lots of activities to choose from here: horseback riding, golf, fishing, sailing in the 100-acre spring-fed lake—although you can also just lounge by the pool or book a treatment at the day spa. The ranch-style rooms and suites come with garden views, covered porches, high-beam ceilings, and wood-burning fireplaces, with touches of Spanish tile and fine Western art. A jacket is required at the nightly dinners (which are included in your room rate).

AdamZimm, from Santa Barbara
I went to the Alisal with my wife for our Anniversary and it was wonderful. The location in the Santa Barbara wine country is spectacular. They have two golf courses, tennis courts a private lake for boating and fishing and one of the best horseback riding programs around. The mood is really relaxed and when we weren't doing the activities we hung by the pool, hiked and we even took a couples massage. Romantic! There are no phones in the room, but you can access the internet if you have to check emails.
Food is included in the room rate and the chef is outstanding. It makes a very nice home base for wine tasting in the area.
I would look into their special packages for the best rates.
