Since 1946 this 10,000-acre ranch has been popular with celebrities and plain folk alike. The many activities here include horseback riding, tennis, golf, and archery, and you can boat and fish in the resort's 100-acre spring-fed lake. You can also just lounge by the pool or book a treatment at the day spa. The ranch-style rooms and suites come with garden views, covered porches, high-beam ceilings, and wood-burning fireplaces, and the decor incorporates Spanish-tile accents and fine Western art. A jacket is required at the nightly dinners, which are included in the room rate. The rooms have no phones or TVs, but the property has free Wi-Fi and good cell-phone connections.

The first thing I must say is that the service is absolutely the best. There are plenty of places with great, attentive service. But often it has a stiff or formal air. Every single person here is warm and caring and delightful and personal - without being one bit intrusive. They really make you feel as though the only thing that they care about is your comfort. This was my first stay, although I have heard about it for many, many years. It
was a wonderful, restful vacation. It is a fabulous location for a family vacation. They keep the kids busy day and night, and you can tell that the kids are all having a blast. The pool is big enough - but not TOO big. Lifeguards all the time. The food is wonderful. Really excellent. The rooms vary; ours was perfect. Front and back porch. You can be as quiet as you want to be - or as social. It is a perfect place for annual family gatherings - or for several families to meet up. I spent most of the days reading and walking, and joined my family for the superb dinners. We brought our own wine. We discovered that many of the guests return every year for a lifetime.
