It may be that no other restaurant between San Francisco and Los Angeles has a better coastal view than Nepenthe. The food and drink are overpriced but good; there are burgers, sandwiches, and salads for lunch, and fresh fish and hormone-free steaks for dinner. For the real show, settle on the terraced deck in the late afternoon, order a glass from the extensive wine list, and watch the sun slip into the Pacific Ocean. Every guidebook makes a big deal about Nepenthe. This is mostly because there aren't a lot of options in the area. The food is bad and REALLY overpriced. The view is nice, but not anything that you can't see from a million other places on the coast. If you must go, have a drink and move on.
