This is among the prettiest restaurants in San Jose: Ceramic tile floors, skylights, and rough wood walls give it the feel of an elegant farmhouse. Chef Mark Tabak prepares each dish carefully -- you can even watch him do so in the glass-walled kitchen, which takes an unpretentious center stage here. Try the five-part tasting menu, which changes often to reflect the best of local ingredients. In summer the menu might include a Mission fig strudel with dolce Gorgonzola and duck prosciutto, or honey-lavender grilled apricots for dessert.

After reading the review that described this as a pretty restaurant, I was very disappointed. Dusty silk plants hanging from the rafters are not attractive. The lobster bisque (soup of the day) was terrible - watery, no flavor. The grilled chicken, portobello sandwich I ordered at the waiter's suggestion, was dry and didn't have portobello on it. We didn't complain but he must have realized we weren't happy and brought a complimentary dessert. I don't recommend this and I won't go back.
