Wall Street Journal meets Wallpaper magazine is the feel at this boutique hotel. It's the hippest place to stay in San Jose -- evident even as you enter the lobby through an outdoor lounge complete with martinis, bocce courts, and either hip-hop or soul music playing at all times. The rooms are stylish, with an emphasis on texture rather than bright color: faux-fur throw pillows, woven wool blankets, leather headboards, and even leather-texture wallpaper. The restaurant, Paragon ($$-$$$), has low lighting and a thriving cocktail bar. But for all the hipness, no congeniality is sacrificed. The staff is young and friendly, and little perks like the CD lending library give the hotel a welcoming vibe. Pros: Stylish, young, L.A.-hip. Cons: Service is occasionally off.
