The Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts, one of the most comprehensive and varied art collections in the Bay Area, includes works from pre-Columbian periods through the modern. Included is the world's largest collection -- 180 pieces -- of Rodin sculptures outside Paris, many of them displayed in the outdoor garden (for a spectacular sight, visit these at night during a full moon). Other highlights include a bronze Buddha from the Ming dynasty, wooden masks and carved figurines from 18th- and 19th-century Africa, paintings by Georgia O'Keeffe, and sculpture by Willem de Kooning and Bay Area artist Robert Arneson. The exceptional café has a menu -- mostly organic -- and clientele that's savvy but unpretentious. You can sit in the airy dining room or on the sunny terrace overlooking the Rodin garden.
