Fodor's Review

In shapes ranging from rolling pins to eggbeaters and hair dryers, vibrators dating back to the 19th century are displayed in this fun and fascinating museum inside the sex-positive store Good Vibrations. Originally used by physicians to treat hysteria and later marketed as health and beauty aids, vibrators are sold in many mainstream outlets these days—but as "massage aids," not sex toys. Arranged chronologically from the 1880s (the electric vibrator was invented in 1869) to the 1970s, the examples here include the impressive, suitcase-size models of the 1930s, the Magic Fingers beds of the 1950s and '60s, and the more current Ecstasy 2000. Visitors must be 18 or older to enter the store and museum.
