Ah, the summer of love. Centered on the famed Haight-Ashbury intersection, the Haight continues to draw visitors with visions of 1960s tie-dye, hippies, and hallucinogens. You can find all those things here, along with some of the loveliest Victorians in town. The Haight is, in fact, quite gritty, and the street kids panhandling here can be intimidating. Hip locals come for the great second-hand shops, cheap brunch, and low-key -- some would say grungy -- bars and cafés. If you're put off by punks and panhandling, buy your tie-dye T-shirt somewhere else. If you're not, swing through the Haight on your way to Golden Gate Park.
