SoMa, Mission Bay, and Dogpatch

SoMa (short for "south of Market") is one of San Francisco's most sprawling neighborhood, covering a largely industrial part of the city below Market Street between the Mission District, the Financial District, and the Embarcadero.

It's home to many tech company offices, nightclubs and notable restaurants. It's also home to several major sights for visitors, including Oracle Park, the Moscone Center and the magnificent SFMOMA.

Mission Bay resides just on the other side of Mission Creek from SoMa. The two are connected by a pair of drawbridges, one of which the Muni T-line crosses. Mission Bay is the city's "newest" neighborhood where construction continues at a rapid pace. It's a relaxed, park-filled, walkable area that often feels like a quiet suburb in a big city. The neighborhood includes the NBA's Golden State Warriors and many UCSF hospitals. Dogpatch is a formerly industrial, now mostly chic neighborhood adjacent to Mission Bay. Compared to SoMa, Dogpatch is tiny, yet has several exciting restaurants, cafés, and boutiques. It's also the rare San Francisco neighborhood that remains visual arts–centric with several studios and galleries scattered throughout.
