Cornell Hotel de France Review

Discovering this French family-operated hotel is like finding a bit of Paris near Union Square. Hosts Claude and Micheline Lambert arrived from their native Orléans 40 years ago, and over the years have renovated and decorated each room with prints of paintings by Picasso, Chagall, and Gustav Klimt. Many savvy repeat visitors know to ask about special packages and discounted rates. Downstairs, Restaurant Jeanne d'Arc offers classic French cuisine in a medieval scene set off by stained-glass windows and artifacts depicting—who else?—Joan of Arc.

    Cornell Hotel de France Review

I love this place and stay there every visit to SF. It just oozes in unique charms from the very French owners to the house dog Noah to the elevator that's straight out of Thoroughly Modern Millie with an old iron gate you have to slide shut to go anywhere. Sure the rooms range from really, really small to maybe not quite as small. And there's the male erotic review place two doors down. And if you have your window open just a crack, you will hear the clank and bell ringing starting at 6 a.m. sharp on the Powell Street cable car.

But the Jeanne D'Arc restaurant is in the basement and is one of the great best kept secrets. Dinner is great and is affordable, even with a bottle of wine. And they also offer a free breakfast every morning too. You even get free WiFi in the rooms now (it was only in the lobby before).
