With its zinc tapas bar, fireplace, big communal table, and mix of leather banquettes and oak tables, Terzo has what it takes to pull in the neighborhood social set and everyone else who appreciates expertly prepared Mediterranean fare. The restaurant—from the same people behind North Beach's venerable Rose Pistola—is known for its small-plates menu, but also offers full-size entrées. On the compact, seasonally shifting menu you might find creamy hummus and warmed-to-order pita, grilled calamari with lentils, chicken spiedini, and grilled mahi mahi with garbanzos and Meyer lemon salsa verde. But a plate of irresistible onion strings is available year-round. The extensive wine list is loaded with interesting vintners and varietals (some of them on the pricey side).
