Billed as the country's oldest ongoing blues festival, SFBF has hosted a hall of fame's worth of blues legends over the years, including John Lee Hooker, B. B. King, Buddy Guy, and James Cotton. It's also a great place to catch rising Bay-Area blues stars like J. C. Smith and Tommy Castro. The festival, which was founded by local blues historian Tom Mazzolini in 1973, is held each September at Fort Mason's Great Meadow, which has stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the bay.
