When San Franciscans want a big, bourgeois French dinner, but their wallets hold only enough for a top-end main course, they head to Restaurant Jeanne D'Arc, quietly tucked into the lower level of the charming Cornell Hotel de France. Surrounded by faux 15th-century tapestries and fresh flowers is the largest collection of Joan of Arc memorabilia in the United States, so says the management. Dig into a four-course supper for $29.25, with a dozen main course options, like rabbit in white wine, duck confit, or filet mignon with mushroom sauce ($4 extra). For dessert there's apple tart or Grand Marnier soufflé, capping off a meal that you might find in a small town in Provence.

Love this place! Dine here often for its atmosphere and reasonably-priced menu featuring classic French bistro fare. The Grand Marnier souffle is wonderful! Great casual service.
