Book NowThe St. Regis Hotel, San Francisco Review
This may be the most luxurious hotel in the city. Guests often remark that it's hipper and more modern than other hotels in the St. Regis chain, though the decor is still conservative: Rooms have subdued cream-color, leather-texture walls and window seats, and 85% have views of the city. The 42-inch plasma-screen TVs and cordless remotes handle everything from raising the motorized window shades to controlling the entertainment systems to providing weather and other electronic information. Rooms also have Bose sound systems, a copier/fax/printer combo, and direct phone lines. Baths, with limestone tiling and TVs, have deep soaking tubs and separate showers with shower heads that rain straight down. All suites and some rooms have 24-hour butler service. The two-level spa has nine treatment rooms, and the area around the 50-foot lap pool, filled with natural light and bubbling water sounds, is a stunning essay in bright white: a Jacuzzi and sauna are in the immaculate dressing area. The showplace lobby has an elegant bar, restaurant, and a 16-foot-long, two-sided open fireplace.

Stay here often now when I come to the city as my contracted rate is very good, although I do prefer the Four Seasons a few blocks away. The rooms here are great - very sleek and modern with wonderful sheets and towels and the bath amenities are great. The public areas are very nice altho tend to get a bit full of patrons who think they're the beautiful set. Also, have to agree with the prior rater regarding staff's attitude - don't appreciate snobbism from someone for whom I'm paying their salary. Also, the valet rates are outrageous, but that's true of all the hotels in the city - still it's annoying to pay twice as much to park the car as to rent it....

I stayed at the St. Regis twice - the first time was pure bliss; the second time was sheer hell. The hotel is beautiful, the architecture, the bar, the rooms, the gadgetry, all wonderful - the service is atrocious! My first stay, the service was impeccable and understated, just what I expected; my second stay, the service was horrid and snobbish. I even complained to Starwood and they told me that they would attempt to resolve the complaint - the did attempt - and the manager of the hotel called and upbraided me for complaining! How's that for service? I called Starwood to complain again and they admitted they had had several complaints and there was not much they could do except apologize and give me lots of star points - nothing, however, will make up for my horrible stay at St. Regis...

I travel to San Francisco about once a month for two or three nights each time. The St Regis has beautiful rooms (especially the Metropolitan Suites), fantastic service and excellent food... the location is also perfect. Better for me than the Four Seasons and Mandarin, the only competitor is the Ritz-Carlton and it does not benefit from the newly-furnished, stunning rooms.
