This energetic and upscale American tavern owned by TV chef and personality (and restaurateur) Tyler Florence appeals to locals and visitors alike. It has a good-looking style that's rich with turn-of-the-century Americana, including brick walls, comfortable booths, wood tables, multiple levels, and there's even a billiards room. The approachable menu has deviled eggs, fresh seafood, excellent salads (the Green Goddess dressing is particularly good), and the decadent burger
and fried chicken are both favorites. (Try not to fill up on the complimentary popovers.) Because it's located in the Financial District, expect a busy crowd at lunch that also likes to drink. The volume can be loud, so this won't be a good fit if you're wanting to hear your dinner companion, but the upstairs is slightly quieter. There are also a few outdoor tables, but they're hard to snag. Reservations are highly recommended.
