Fodor's Review

A gold mine for mussel lovers, this French-friendly spot offers six preparations to choose from, plus a variety of clam dishes, all at a modest price. Among the best are marinière (white wine, garlic, and parsley) and one combining coconut milk, lime juice, and chili. The tables are clustered together in the lively dining room, so you might overhear neighboring conversations. Solo diners will find a pleasant bar where they can dine. On temperate days and nights, try for one of the tables outdoors.

Interesting

The Hotel (Le Meridian) had suggested Plouf as a casual option since our luggage did not make it to SF until 10:00 PM. We went early (6:00) and had the place to ourselves. Belden St. is a row of dining options sat in pretty close quarters. If this bothers you, go elsewhere. The food and service were good. The Halibut my wife had was very good. The pork tenderloin I chose was a little over cooked, but good flavor. The wine selection (by the bottle)

is slightly higher than some better establishments.

why pay top dollar for nausea & indifferent service?

i wanted to like them. i live in sf. the restaurant has a clean bill from the sf health dept... but too bad there is no muni service to rate indifference and arrogance of owners and staff! food poisoning can happen at any restaurant. but when the manager and owner DON'T CARE that patrons get sick from bad mussels, you have an indication of their way of doing business. go to jack's on the corner. enjoy the tradition. show up when they open for lunch,

stand in line. GREAT fresh fish in an impeccable restaurant!
