Fodor's Review

Arrive here just as music lovers are folding their napkins and heading off for an 8 pm show at the nearby Opera House or SF JAZZ Center, and you'll snag a table and some fresh, sustainable, often local seafood. Much of the fish—sea bass, steelhead, swordfish—is grilled and served with a choice of sauces from beurre blanc to lemon-and-caper butter. Brass coat hooks, white tablecloths, a long bar, and a mix of banquettes and tables define the traditional San Francisco

look of this four-decades-old seafood stronghold.

Hayes Street Grill Review

Easy to locate, Hayes St. Grill serves excellent, simple fish with a choice of sauce as their signature. Salads are a delight. The room is rather spare in decor and can get a bit noisy if the crowd is large, but service is perfect. The after 7PM prix fix dinner is a real deal.

terrific seafood and very good service. We arrived just after the crush for the performance and were treated to a quiet evening. The petrale sole was delicious as was the tuna; salads also top notch.
