One of North Beach's last family-style trattorias, Capp's is steadfastly old-fashioned. The men at the bar still roll dice for drinks, celebrity photos line the walls, and diners sit elbow-to-elbow at long, oilcloth-covered tables. The fare is packaged in bountiful five-course family-style dinners for $21.50, with pasta dishes like veal tortellini, and the roast lamb a good choice for the main (the tasty osso buco and polenta is $5 more). The food isn't award-winning, but a meal here won't break the bank either. A three-course option, good for smaller appetites—and smaller budgets ($18.50)—includes minestrone, salad, and choice of pasta (or you can skip the family-style format and get the trio of courses for $15.50). For $3.50 more, you can finish with an order of spumoni. Kids under 10 will be happy with their own menu priced at $13.
