Nob Hill

  • 1. Cable Car Museum

Ride a cable car up impossibly steep Nob Hill, then head to the "barn" to find out how this unique mode of transportation works.

  • 2. Strolling Among Mansions

The 1906 quake claimed the original robber barons' palaces that once dominated Nob Hill, but the neighborhood still has plenty of grand, old-money homes.

Map of Nob Hill

Topped with some of the city's most elegant hotels, Gothic Grace Cathedral, and private blue-blood clubs, Nob Hill is old-money San Francisco. If city history interests you, you'll want to take in the old mansions of the Huntingtons and Crockers. Casual visitors will want to take the quick tour, which is plenty, on the cable car.
