Fodor's Review

The location is key to this hotel's popularity: it's within walking distance of such tourist hot spots as Ghirardelli Square, the Cannery, Pier 39, Aquatic Park, and Alcatraz ferries; bay cruises dock nearby; and it's across the street from a cable-car turnaround. Although the rooms are classic Hyatt—with tasteful contemporary furniture in masculine brown and gray hues—the lobby has a touch of offbeat San Francisco with its mod fireplace surrounded by contemporary art. The family-centered hotel gave its rooms, fitness center, restaurant, bar, and lobby a massive face-lift and spruced up the moderately sized quarters with flat-screen TVs, and double-paned windows that keep out the considerable street noise. Each floor has a laundry room and the ground floor pool is ideal for dog-paddling kids and sunbathers. The signature restaurant Knuckles also happens to be a historic sports bar, serving fancy burgers and a lavish breakfast buffet. If you happen to be in town during Fleet Week, you might see the Blue Angels posing for pictures in the brightly lit lobby. In 2012 the hotel gussied up its meeting rooms, bringing considerable brightness to its work spaces.
